Personal statement

As a blind artist my work is about blindness, in the sense that it is inescapable, but essentially it is not issue based. Initially the work is about moving in space, a safe environment with nothing in the way, interaction with the space and the handmade shapes around me. These shapes are figurative as they all initiate and relate to my body in some way. The work is also about boundaries - their existence and also lack of them - about my body physically and its boundaries.

The tactile pictures also deal with these issues in the form of positive and negative space in relation to my body. Compositionally the video images are set up in the same way as the tactile images in order for me to understand their visual aspect. The humour in the work is incidental but reflects my practice which is playful and explorative.
